The sound of love

When was the last time you spoke to someone and 'heard' love in their voice?

For me, it was today and it was my dad.

My mom passed away almost eleven years ago, and in that time, my dad has had one relationship. It started shortly after my mother died, and she was a woman he was introduced to because she was a widow and the thought was she could commisurate with him.

It ended a few years ago.

My dad called me a couple weeks ago, and as soon as I got on the phone I knew he had something to say. Finally, after all the 'how are you's he said "I'm calling to tell you I have a girlfriend".

He then spent the next few minutes telling me about her. I had heard of her before... they had flirted a few times in the past. She was, in fact, the woman who made my wedding cake. She's 16 years younger than my dad... but... I don't blink at that since my dad was 18 years younger than my mother. :-)

Today, I called him... and the happiness I heard in his voice brought tears to my eyes. He told me "She brought me back to life" and "I think this is it, honey. I think I'm in love".

I'm so happy for him! I have yet to meet her because my dad lives a few hours away. But as soon as I finish this book and my weekends are freer, we're all going to visit him. He's so anxious for us to meet her and insists we'll all love her.

It made my day to hear that kind of joy in his voice. He'd talk about her and then laugh... that deep down "I'm so happy I can't think straight" kind of laugh. He's talking about holidays and everything. It's wonderful!

I just wanted to share what made me smile today.

Gail
